Google is dropping support for Internet Explorer 6 (IE6) and older browsers.
This Official Google Enterprise blog urges users of Google Apps to upgrade.
“The web has evolved in the last 10 years, from simple text pages to rich, interactive applications including video and voice. Unfortunately, very old browsers cannot run many of these new features effectively. So to help ensure your business can use the latest, most advanced web apps, we encourage you to update your browsers as soon as possible,” Google says.
The choices are listed as:
“Many other companies have already stopped supporting older browsers like Internet Explorer 6.0 as well as browsers that are not supported by their own manufacturers,” Google says. Read more »

I’ve installed Piwik web analytics on the Gorey Media server.
Piwik is open sourceweb analytics software that provides detailed reports on website visitors. Features are built inside plugins. Users can add new features and remove the ones they don’t need.
Piwik describes itself as the open source alternative to Google Analytics.
I’m using both. I like the fact Piwik gives live stats and has widgets you can display in a website.

Piwik is a fairly hefty 2.6MB to upload, but it’s easy to install and there seems to be a vibrant user community, with new plugins being added. You can monitor stats for numerous websites from a single install.
I’ve set up a honey pot on my main website to entrap spammers.
Project Honey Pot is a system for identifying spammers and the spambots they use to scrape addresses from websites.
Addresses are custom-tagged to the time and IP address of a visitor to the site. If one of these addresses begins receiving email, the system not only tells that the messages are spam, but also the exact moment when the address was harvested and the IP address that gathered it.
I frequently get comment spam on that site.
So far, the honey pot has not detected any spammers (after one day). The data is available to read here. Read more »
